Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS) in partnership with Mustekham Parlimaan (an EU Funded project) organized its phase two of “National Train the Trainer Workshop” from November 27th – December 1st, 2023 at its campus in Islamabad. The workshop was attended by twenty one officers from all four Provincial Assembly Secretariats, National Assembly Secretariat and the Senate Secretariat. The objective of the workshop was to equip the participants with tools, models and competencies needed to make learning sessions absorbing and effective.
The programme commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. Legislative Advisor, Mustehkam Parlimaan, Nadia Batool welcomed the participants and briefed them on the background and significance for conducting the Train the Trainer workshop. Assistant Director, Bushra Ali, moderator of the event, introduced the trainers, Ms. Shireen Naqvi and Mr. Usman Gulzari facilitating the five day workshop to the audience. The training comprised of key concepts and instructional content required to become an impactful trainer. Participants were imparted with learning core designs principles of training, learning needs assessment, essential presentations and delivery tool techniques. In the five-day training participants were involved in activities including physical exercises, role plays, impromptu actions and presentations along with spot feedback. On the final day of the workshop, participants were evaluated on their learning through a comprehensive exam followed by final presentations. Panel of judges to assess final presentations included well accomplished seasoned trainer, Kamran Rizvi, President Toastmasters Club Islamabad, Qamar Sheraz as external evaluators and DG PDP, Samer Awais from PIPS.
In the closing ceremony, participants from Provincial and Federal Assembly Secretariats were invited to share their views on the workshop. Mr. Muhamamd Hashim Davi (Additional Secretary), Provincial Assembly of Balochistan Secretariat, Ms. Fauzia Vaqar (Deputy Secretary) Provincial Assembly of the Punjab Secretariat, Mr. Amir Nawaz Khan (Deputy Secretary) Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretariat, Ms. Nazish Rahmani (Deputy Director) National Assembly Secretariat and Ms. Bushra Rafique (Deputy Director) Senate Secretariat shared positive reviews regarding the training, expressing that it exceeded their expectations and that they were leaving with the right skills required to become a good trainer. External Evaluator and seasoned trainer, Mr. Kamran Rizvi congratulated the participants for successfully completing the Train the Trainer workshop. He identified primary qualities required to become a trainer amongst which physical fitness was one essential area of focus.
DG PDP, Samer Awais, thanked team MuP for their unwavering support and commended her own team for smoothly steering the week-long workshop. Team Lead, Ms. Margie Cook congratulated the trainers and everyone involved in conducting the training successfully. In his closing remarks, Worthy Executive Director, Muhammad Anwar congratulated both teams MuP and PDP for successfully conducting the workshop and expected that participants have acquired the cardinal skill set needed to become a successful trainer. The event concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony amongst the participants of the workshop by worthy Executive Director, Muhammad Anwar and Team Lead, Ms. Margie Cook. External evaluators, Mr. Kamran Rizvi and Mr. Qamar Sheraz were presented with souvenirs for their valuable contributions towards the workshop by Executive Director, Muhammad Anwar and Team Lead, Margie Cook. Trainers of the workshop, Ms. Shireen Naqvi and Usman Gulzari were presented with shields by Executive Director, Muhammad Anwar and Director General (PDP&C) Samer Awais.
